The ARC Learning Assistants (LAs) will be offering peer tutoring support for students enrolled in NYU Shanghai courses! To book an appointment with a Learning Assistant (LA), you can log into NYU Connect. Click the full Guide to find out how to schedule an appointment with an ARC Learning Assistant or to drop in on their sessions.

Who We Are

Who We Are

ARC Learning Assistants (LA) are NYU Shanghai student tutors who provide course-specific academic support for NYU Shanghai students in and out of the classroom. LAs work closely with faculty and ARC professionals to support student success and promote independent and active learning. LAs provide Individual and small-group tutoring in a variety of STEM, Business, Economics, IMA, and Chinese Language courses.

Where We Are

  • Most course tutoring sessions take place in the ARC, Room W523, New Bund Campus. Location for larger-group study sessions will be announced before the individual sessions.
  • IMA tutoring sessions take place in the IMA Lab (Room N306 for Communications Lab and Creative Coding Lab, Room N406 for the Interaction Lab and Innovation Lab).
  • Chinese Language tutoring sessions take place in the ARC (Room W523) as well.

You may ask the Information Assistant (IA) at the front desk outside of the ARC for assistance if you can’t find your appointed Learning Assistant.

What we do?
  • We will facilitate your insights into the course content and your learning process.
  • We will provide individual tutoring helping you identify and address your problems in learning.
  • We will hold weekly, midterm and final review sessions, helping you review the important concepts and practise problem-solving.
  • We will provide relevant learning information, and suggest additional learning resources.
  • We will suggest study skills to support you in mastery of course materials.
  • We will share with you our own learning experiences and challenges.
  • We will help you to build motivation and self-confidence.
What we do NOT do?
  • We will not do or correct coursework for you, or provide direct answers.
  • We will not assist you with materials identified as tests, whether take-home, in class, or otherwise.
  • We will not go over the entire lectures that you missed.
  • We will not predict the grade an assignment may receive.
  • We will not recommend course selections or whether to continue in a particular course.
Can I make an appointment with an LA if the time slot is blue/reserved by others?

It depends on the course you are seeking tutoring. Business, Economics, & STEM courses allow a maximum of 30 appointments for each time slot. IMA courses allow 3 appointments for each time slot, and Chinese Language only allows 1appointment for each time slot.

Can I walk into an LA's office hours?

Course tutoring sessions are held in the form of LA office hours. Students are welcome to attend a session without an advance appointment, though making an appointment beforehand will help LAs better prepare for the session.

How can I cancel an appointment?

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment with an LA, please cancel your appointment as soon as possible before the appointment time by clicking on the scheduled appointment slot and selecting“cancel appointment.”Both you and your tutor will receive a notification right after the cancellation. If you encounter any problem in canceling your appointment, please email the ARC at shanghai.arc@nyu.edu.

How many appointments can I book with an LA?

There are no limits on the number of appointments. You are welcome to make as many appointments as you want with one or more LAs depending on your academic needs.
