Meet the Advisors
NYU Shanghai is a global community and the language of instruction is English, we encourage students to communicate in English in academic settings, including advising.
Each student is assigned to an academic adviser. Advisors provide resources and advising for academic challenges, support choosing majors and minors, and identify ways that your classes and experiences fit together to give meaning to your education and meet your personalized goals. You can schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss academic progress and planning.
Huimei (Jenny) Wang
Specialization: Data Science; Computer Science; Business & Finance; Business & Marketing; Inbound Study Away Students
Jenny Wang completed her master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago, and her bachelor’s degree in Math and Economics from Emory and Henry College. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Jenny worked at the United Nations and the University of Chicago.
Major Specialization: Business & Finance; Business & Marketing; Interactive Media Arts & Business
Jing Zhou completed her master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and Education from University of Toronto, and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Vancouver Island University. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Jing worked as an education consultant at a top British education consulting company in Shanghai. She was also involved in working with various school districts in Shanghai to promote students’ social and emotional wellbeing.
Major Specialization: Interactive Media Arts; Interactive Media Arts & Business
Jinglin Guo received her master’s degree in Management and Information Systems from Western Oregon University in the US, and her bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA) from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics in China. Before joining NYU Shanghai, Jinglin worked for six years in the Academic Advising and Learning Center at Western Oregon University as an international learning specialist and also taught an International First Year Experience class.
Major Specialization: Economics; Mathematics; Honors Mathematics
Minqing Wang earned her master’s degree in Education from Harvard University, focusing on linguistics and developmental psychology. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she served as a counselor at Harvard University’s Summer School, providing academic and personal development counseling for students. Minqing was also an instructor at Hult International Business School in Boston, teaching Business English classes and conducting workshops on academic study strategies.
Qinmi (Sammi) Li
Major Specialization: Business & Finance; Business & Marketing
Qinmi (Sammi) Li received her master's degree in Economics from San Francisco State University, and her bachelor's degree in Public Finance from Xiamen University. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she worked as a curriculum coordinator at Wenzhou-Kean University, responsible for curriculum scheduling. She was also involved in various business programs as an assistant to Dean of Business.
Major Specialization: Global China Studies; Business & Finance; Business & Marketing
Xiao Liang received his master's degree in TESOL from American University and his bachelor's degree in Broadcasting and Hosting from Communication University of Zhejiang. Before joining the Advising team, he worked at NYU Shanghai as a Go Local Academic Advisor. Xiao also had experience teaching and tutoring international students while completing his master's degree.

Xinyuan received her master’s degree in TESOL from University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in English Translation with a minor in Germanistics from Shanghai International Studies University. Before joining the Advising team, Xinyuan worked at NYU Shanghai as a Global Academic Writing and Speaking Fellow and Coordinator of Academic Support Program in the Academic Resource Center. Xinyuan was also an English instructor at NYUSPS, teaching listening and speaking skills to EFL learners.
Major Specialization: Computer Science; Electrical and Systems Engineering; Computer Systems Engineering
Xixi Ni received her master’s degree in International Higher Education from Boston College with a focus on student development and international learning and teaching. She obtained her B.A. in Anthropology and International Economics from the University of Richmond. Before joining NYU Shanghai, Xixi worked as a career assistant at MIT providing one-on-one career counseling and professional development workshops to undergraduate and graduate students.
Xue (Sophie) Xu
Major Specialization: Data Science; Interactive Media Art
Sophie Xu received her master’s degree in International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she worked at the international office at the University of California, Berkeley, where she served a diverse student population and developed programs that supported Cal international community. She also worked with the Center for International Studies as a Program Coordinator to coordinate study abroad programs in China, Malaysia, South Korea, and etc.
Yifan (Brian) Li
Major Specialization: Business & Finance; Business & Marketing; Economics
Brian Li received his master’s degree in Higher Education from Harvard University, focusing on student development, leadership, and international higher education. Prior to joining NYUSH, he served as the Academic and Personal Development Coach at Harvard Summer School and provided coaching for academic development and personal growth to students. Brian also worked at Harvard College Dean of Students Office, NYU International Student Center, and NYU Office of Residential Life. As an alum of NYU, Brian obtained his B.A. (Honors) in Economics from College of Arts and Science.
Yihan (Elaine) Liu
Major Specialization: Humanities; Social Science; Business & Finance; Business & Marketing
Elaine Liu completed her master’s degree in English Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and her bachelor’s degree in English Education from the Education University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Elaine worked as a teacher in Hong Kong. From 2019 to 2021, she also worked at SPS office at NYU Shanghai and Go Local Advising Academic Advisor.
Yiren Ruan completed her master’s degree in International Education Development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her bachelor’s degree in NYU Shanghai as the inaugural class. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Yiren worked at the State University of New York’s Global Affairs Program. She also worked as the academic advisor for the NYU Shanghai Go Local Program from Fall 2020 to Fall 2021.
