Class of 2020 Convocation

NYU Shanghai held a virtual Convocation on Sunday, May 31, 2020 for graduates of the inaugural classes of the university’s master’s programs in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Quantitative Finance, and Data Analytics & Business Computing.

During the event, NYU President Andrew Hamilton, NYU Shanghai Chancellor Yu Lizhong, Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman, Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen, NYU Steinhardt Interim Dean Pamela Morris, and NYU Stern Dean Raghu Sundaram delivered messages recognizing the pioneering accomplishments of the 62 graduates at NYU Shanghai’s first Graduate Convocation. Student speakers, Xu Siqi, MA ‘20, and Wu Kaiwen, MS ‘20, represented their respective programs, and each graduate's name was read by faculty representatives. This was followed by a ceremonial "hooding" of all graduates.

Gift boxes for each graduate prepared by the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate and Advanced Education came with full sets of academic attire, including hoods adorned with colors signifying each graduate’s field of study. In their gift boxes, graduates also received a NYU torch lapel pin. A customized copper ruler co-branded on both sides with the NYU Shanghai logo and NYU Steinhardt or NYU Stern logo was another memorable gift box surprise.
