Program Overview

The IMA Summer Institute: Emerging Technologies is an interdisciplinary summer program for young people interested in emerging media technologies, while also introducing them to the topics offered at our Interactive Media Arts (IMA) major at NYU Shanghai. Like IMA, the Summer School Program is a playful and collaborative experience designed to inspire students to pursue their own interests, explore the recently possible, design inclusively and drive changes through creativity and technology.

Students will be immersed in the fascinating world of emerging technologies, participating in an engaging hands-on learning experience. The goal of this program is to offer a unique opportunity for teenage students to explore a diverse array of elective crash courses, similar to the ones offered for NYU Shanghai students, covering creative fields such as Machine Learning, Robotics, Creative Coding, Game Design, and New Media. Additionally, students will have the chance to synthesize their knowledge and creativity by completing a final project that showcases their skills and passions.

Program Highlights:

Students attending the summer institute will enjoy an immersive experience as they learn from top international academics at NYU Shanghai. They will benefit from access to cutting-edge technology equipment and facilities, allowing them to develop creative projects utilizing emerging technologies. They will engage in collaborative learning with talented and passionate IMA students and alumni, who will share peer perspectives on transitioning to university life and how to thrive in a rigorous academic environment. Additionally, participants will experience full immersion in English and have numerous opportunities to network and become part of a unique international community of scholars, artists, and changemakers. The program will conclude with a final presentation and exhibition of their work, during which outstanding students may receive awards in recognition of their excellence throughout the program.
