Beijing: Collaborative Art Practices and Art Spaces

cel

Sponsors: Academic Affairs CEL Office, Visual Arts Studio

Dates: October 17-20, 2024

Location: Beijing

In this experience, led by Visual Arts professor Monika Lin, participants will collaborate with factory workers who create art inspired by their daily work and stories. "Community Narratives" is a collaborative printmaking activity that focuses on everyday objects as symbols of memories, place, and identity. Objects serve as vessels for memories, holding stories that reveal significant aspects of our lives. This trip also includes guided visits to the 798 Art Zone, the National Art Museum, and other art spaces, featuring discussions and reflections throughout.

Cost: RMB 900 covering hotel, local transport, workshop materials, expert guides, and some meals. You will be expected to purchase your own train tickets to and from Beijing. We will tell you which trains to book and can teach you how to do the booking if you haven’t done it before.

Application Instructions
Students who apply for this trip should demonstrate an interest in visual arts, storytelling and community engagement. To better prepare, there will be a required 90-minute workshop with Professor Lin held before the trip. During the trip, short discussion and reflection sessions will be held at the various sites. No prior art experience is required.

Apply here by September 15 at 11:59 pm Shanghai time. Spots are limited.
