First-Generation Program

The NYU Shanghai First-Generation Program is dedicated to supporting and advocating for first-generation students at NYU Shanghai. Acknowledging first-generation students’ effort in confronting and navigating systemic challenges, our program aims to create and sustain a supportive community through regular events and workshops. We provide resources to support first-gen students navigate university life and beyond, foster solidarity, and facilitate their initiatives to take action, empower themselves and the community.

The First-Generation Program recognizes a first-generation student at NYU Shanghai as the first person in their family to attend university or does not receive guidance to help them navigate university life.

First-Gen Mentorship Program

Our First-Gen Mentorship Program, part of the First Generation Program, aims to provide support and guidance for first-generation students by pairing with faculty/staff members. All faculty and staff mentors are passionate about bridging opportunity gaps and together with the students to envision their college and post-college journey.

Event Highlights

Throughout the academic year, the program regularly hosts events and workshops, collaborating with university departments to provide resources and foster community among first-generation students. Past events include the Scholarship & Financial Resources Workshop, CCD Resources Dedicated for First-Gens at NYU Shanghai, First Generation Movie Night, and more.
