The NYU Shanghai EmpowerU Program is dedicated to supporting and advocating for first-generation students at NYU Shanghai. Acknowledging first-generation students’ effort in confronting and navigating systemic challenges, our program aims to create and sustain a supportive community through regular events and workshops. We provide resources to support first-gen students navigate university life and beyond, foster solidarity, and facilitate their initiatives to take action, empower themselves and the community.
The EmpowerU Program recognizes a first-generation student at NYU Shanghai as the first person in their family to attend university or does not receive guidance to help them navigate university life.
EmpowerU Mentorship Program
Our EmpowerU Mentorship Program, part of the EmpowerU Program, aims to provide support and guidance for first-generation students by pairing with faculty/staff members. All faculty and staff mentors are passionate about bridging opportunity gaps and together with the students to envision their college and post-college journey.
