About the NYU Shanghai Degree

NYU Shanghai students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree conferred by New York University—the same degree awarded at our New York campus—as well as a Chinese diploma recognized by the Chinese government, qualifying graduates for opportunities both in China and around the world. The language of instruction throughout NYU Shanghai is English. All foreign students, however, must study and become proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Curriculum

All NYU Shanghai students complete a core curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences that encourages them to explore across disciplines and provides a solid grounding in key subjects before selecting an academic major.

NYU Global Network

NYU Shanghai students spend at least one semester studying at one of NYU’s 14 other global academic centers and campuses, adding yet another international perspective to their education.

Specialized Set of 19 Majors

Our majors draw upon the strengths of NYU’s research faculty, departments, and programs, as well as on the opportunities that Shanghai presents. Undergraduate Research

NYU Shanghai undergraduates have numerous opportunities to work with professors on groundbreaking research. They may also conduct their own inquiries under the guidance of a faculty mentor and with scholarship support from the Dean’s Undergraduate Research Fund. Many NYU Shanghai students have had their findings published in peer-reviewed journals.

Every year, students are invited to present their findings at an Undergraduate Research Symposium. To date, students have presented on more than 80 subjects, ranging from the effects of canine intervention on children diagnosed with Autism, to a token-based lock system using blockchain.

Advising

From developing an academic plan to choosing courses to preparing for internships, graduate school, prestigious awards, and job interviews, NYU Shanghai is committed to helping students develop long-term academic, personal, and professional success strategies. An academic advisor who will guide and help students choose courses, academic concentrations, and co-curricular activities and fields of study to achieve their educational and career goals.
