NYU Shanghai student, Xilin Chen, was accepted into the internationally competitive Class of 2022 Future Global Leaders (FGL) Fellowship by the Future Leaders Foundation. The Foundations’ Talent Advisory Council – comprised of current FGL Fellows – unanimously selected the final 17 FGL Fellows based on their proven records of academic excellence, strength of character, leadership potential, and ambition, from over 650 pre-selected international applications.

A Shanghai local, Chen currently serves as Vice Director General of the Fudan University International Model United Nations Conference (FDUIMUN) and has conducted community analyses as polling director in the NYU Shanghai Student Government. Outside of his on-campus political engagement, Chen is a civic volunteer with the Shanghai Metro Volunteer League, where he provides guidance for passengers at major metro line junctions in Mandarin, English and Shanghai dialect and mentors junior high school students. In the future, he aims to address questions of global access and equity. He hopes to use social entrepreneurship as a tool to promote educational and technological innovation and regional infrastructure development.

Chen will join a network of young leaders representing over 50 nationalities and excelling at the most prestigious universities in the world including Harvard University, University of Oxford, Sciences-Po, and Tsinghua University. Together, the Class of 2022 FGL Fellows will embark on a three-year Fellowship which includes induction into the Fortis Society upon receiving their bachelor’s degree. The goal of the Society is to diversify the world’s elite with deserving leaders from humble backgrounds, committed to creating large-scale positive change in their fields. With this year’s fellows, Chen will embark on a 3-week intensive leadership training in the Rocky Mountains and receive mentorship from high-level professionals, funding and support for an internship abroad, and career advice and tools.
