NYU Shanghai and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) in Beijing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic education cooperation on October 11, aiming to establish a joint center for research and teaching in the next three years.

Under the MoU, the two institutions vow to explore the establishment of an NYU Shanghai-CKGSB joint graduate program. At the same time, the MoU anticipates course exchanges with CKGSB faculty teaching commercial and business courses at NYU Shanghai, while NYU Shanghai faculty will teach commerce, humanities, art, science and technology courses at CKGSB. Both institutions will also seek to recruit together world-class faculty members.

Jeffrey Lehman, Vice Chancellor of NYU Shanghai, highlighted the intention to jointly hire faculty as particularly exciting and one that gives the MoU great substance. With the two schools aligned together, Lehman said the two schools should aim for the very best and attract some amazing talent.

“The cooperation between two highly complementary top schools will bring tremendous mutual benefit. However, our collaboration should go beyond simply course exchange. The joint faculty hiring could be an exciting game changer,” Lehman said.

Commenting on the agreement, Lode Li, Professor of Operations Management and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at CKGSB, said: “I am so pleased to witness the collaboration between NYU Shanghai and CKGSB becoming official. Starting today, these two great schools will be able to share their resources in areas of teaching and research. I believe that this is the right direction to go in this age of the sharing economy.”
