NYU Shanghai is to feature in a photography exhibition about the city's financial district.
American-Chinese photographer Frank Su Huang chose to highlight NYU Shanghai’s campus as one of his icons for the ‘Pulitzer Photographer’s View of the FTZ’ exhibition, which marks the third anniversary of the city’s Free Trade Zone, the first open economic area of its kind in mainland China.
Huang visited the university’s state-of-the-art academic building on Century Avenue on Monday, capturing scenes of cultural exchange and learning, from the Library and Interactive Media Arts classrooms to the student study lounges and cafe.
A veteran campus photographer, Huang has been recording the hallowed halls of US universities for many years, with his photographs appearing in the annual “Handbook of American Colleges”-- a popular guide in China to studying in the US.
He is also the author of the “American West photography project” and his photo compilation “Impression of the American West” was selected by the Library of Congress for its collection.
Huang’s photographs of NYU Shanghai will go on display at the Shanghai 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum from September 5 to 30 alongside images of other Pudong landmarks shot by different photographers, including the Pulitzer Prize winner Nick Ut, who captured the iconic image of a child fleeing a napalm bombing during the Vietnam War in 1973.
