Pudong Cultural Heritage Exhibit on Campus

Aug 27 2015

Aug 22-25 —  This past weekend, the Pudong Culture and Arts Center joined the university community in welcoming the class of 2019, as well as their parents and friends, by bringing to NYU Shanghai’s Pudong campus a charming exhibit, entitled Pudong's Intangible Cultural Heritage, to introduce the newcomers to the local folk art culture.

The exhibition, which ran August 22 to 25 in the campus Art Gallery, showcased distinctive examples of Shanghai woven needlepoint tapestry. Visitors learned about the highly complex art form of Sanlin porcelain sculpture, where calligraphic characters and images are carved into porcelain clay. Also on display were beautiful Sanlin embroidery, dating back thousands of years, as well as Pudong paper-cut projects, and stone carvings.

The exhibit's more than 30 handcraft pieces provided  visitors an interesting glimpse into Pudong's rich cultural heritage  and roots as well as its potential as an incubator of culture and art.
