Created to honor the legacy of a beloved space industry pioneer and accomplished pilot, Dawn Brooke Owens (1980 – 2016), the Brooke Owens Fellowship is designed to serve both as an inspiration and as a career boost to capable young women and other gender minorities who, like Brooke, aspire to explore our sky and stars, to shake up the aerospace industry, and to help their fellow people here on planet Earth. We do this by matching up to forty students per year with purpose-driven, paid internships at leading aerospace companies and organizations and with senior and executive level mentors.
Eligibility: Anyone who
a) identifies as a woman or another type of gender-minority;
b) who is currently pursuing a bachelors or associates degree as of October 2023 and has access to a transcript from a college or university;
c) is interested in a career in any facet of the aerospace community.
To give yourself the best odds of succeeding your application, you should have the intention of pursuing a full-time career in the aerospace industry – but for now, you can be enrolled in any major or concentration. However, take note of this information from the website: "A note for applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents: we are huge believers in the value of international perspectives and contributions. We also know that due to export control regulations, internships at many Host Institutions are restricted to US citizens or US permanent residents (green card holders).... a relatively small number of Host Institutions can hire citizens of other nations who have none of those US statuses; though even in this case, US national law and regulation may apply differently to citizens of different nations. So, while we very much encourage you to apply, we also want to be upfront about the fact that your odds are significantly lower than those of an applicant from the USA."
