NYU Shanghai athletics allow students to stay active, support their school, and connect with other universities in Shanghai. On April 15th, the NYU Shanghai men's basketball team played its season finale against the Jiaotong-Michigan University men's team in the ECNU Student Activity Center. Approximately 160 fans that consisted of students, faculty and staff came in purple or white to create a thrilling atmosphere by cheering and holding up posters for the players. Some of the male students were even shirtless with "N" "Y" "U" written on their chests to show their love for the team and Nicole Chan, Watcher Wang, Collin Du and Nicholas Sanchez showed a fantastic dance performance at half-time.
Both teams played admirably and the game was fierce as the teams traded baskets in the first half. Ultimately, the support of the fans and terrific individual performances by David Tian and Ian Soder propelled NYU Shanghai to a 71-54 victory. The game was witnessed by the NYU Shanghai leadership including Chancellor Yu Lizhong and Dean of Students Tyra Liebmann. As NYU Shanghai matures, we will continue to hold more and more games to enable our students to show their great skill and love of NYU Shanghai.
