Early Decision

What you need to know

If you are certain that NYU Shanghai is the right school for you, you may want to consider applying through early decision.

How does early decision work at NYU Shanghai?

  • If you apply to NYU Shanghai as your primary campus of interest for early decision and you are admitted with a financial aid package that enables you to enroll, you must accept the offer within 25 days.
  • If you are offered admission to NYU Shanghai as an alternate campus of interest, you will be released from the binding agreement but will be asked to either accept or decline your offer of admission within 25 days of receiving it.
  • If accepted, you’ll also need to withdraw applications from other schools, and cannot submit new applications.

Can I apply for regular decision if I don’t get in with early decision?

No. Candidates should only apply once as the criteria for evaluation is the same.

Do I have to do anything special when I apply?

There’s nothing you need to do differently. The instructions and required materials are the same as the regular decision application.

What about financial aid?

Applying for financial aid and the way NYU Shanghai determines aid are also the same for early decision. Please keep in mind that you won’t be able to compare financial aid packages from other schools if you apply early decision. Do not feel pressure to apply early decision if finances are a concern.

Is it easier to get in with early decision?

In short: no. The criteria NYU Shanghai uses to evaluate candidates—GPA, test scores, etc.—is the same.

When do I need to apply?

Early Decision II - January 1

*The cut-off time for applications is 11:59 p.m EST.
