1580 students around the world received good news on March 31 as NYU Shanghai announced their final round of admissions offers for the Class of 2027. This year’s admitted international students were selected from a pool of 16,773 international applicants and hail from 84 countries, and 45 US states.
“To be admitted to NYU Shanghai is a tremendous achievement,” said Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to those who were able to earn an offer of admission during this intensely competitive year.”
International students, including students from the US, will ultimately represent about half of the enrolled Class of 2027. Over 29% percent of admitted international students will be first-generation college students, a record high for the university.
"This year's class demonstrated all of the qualities that will help them succeed at NYU Shanghai and beyond - intellectual curiosity and strength, humility to listen and learn, and an eagerness to see beyond what is and imagine what could be. We are so proud to call them NYU Shanghai students,” said Director of Admissions Annie Lu.
This year, 2847 Chinese students applied to the Class of 2027, an increase of more than 13% compared with the previous year. They undergo a separate admission process and will not know their final admission decision until they receive the results of the gaokao, China’s national entrance examination.
“I cannot wait to see a cohort of new NYU Shanghai community members in the New Bund, joining our new efforts for our new growth in our new campus,” said Chancellor Tong Shijun.
The NYU Global Network selected these talented and diverse students from nearly 120,000 applications for first-year admission, a 13% increase from the previous year. Offers of admission to NYU’s New York campus were made to a record 8% of applicants. Three of NYU’s undergraduate colleges offered admission to fewer than 5% of applicants.
