Laboratory Safety

EHS Emergency Response

EHS provides proactive direction for labs with safety issues and facilitates compliance. Our focus is to ensure the safe and environmentally sound management of chemicals from acquisition, storage use, inventory control, regulatory compliance, and disposal.

LABORATORY SUPPLY

Some chemicals, drugs, and bio-reagents that are used at NYU Shanghai require compliance with government regulations. EHS will review requests related to laboratory supplies to keep the University compliant.

For chemical/drug procurement, you can use the two systems to submit your request.

> If the amount of your purchase exceeds 5000RMB, please submit requests via Workday.
> Otherwise, please initiate your request in ChemLife.

WASTE DISPOSAL

The proper management of hazardous waste is essential to protect health and safety of the University community and to ensure compliance with laws and regulation. Make sure NO hazardous materials are placed into regular solid waste containers, flushed down the drain or otherwise inappropriately disposed. If there is any doubt, contact EHS at 2059 5505 / 2059 5515.

All waste must be classified and labeled according to the properties. 5 kinds of waste labels are prepared:

> Solid (PDF)

> Organic Liqu id (PDF)

> Acid Liquid (PDF)

> Base Liquid (PDF)

> Neutral Liquid (PDF)

Before shipping hazardous wastes, you have to label the waste and complete a Hazardous Wastes Collection Form(PDF), and return it EHS at least 5 working days before the scheduled pick-up date. Requests made within 2 working days before the pick-up date will be scheduled next month.
