Jun 2 2016

NYU Shanghai’s exemplary campus health and safety standards have been recognized in two awards from the Chinese government.

The University was recently bestowed the Award of Shanghai Model Institution on Safety and the Award of Shanghai Safe and Civilized Campus for 2014-2015, following inspections by Shanghai authorities.

Established in 2004, the awards highlight a community's commitment “to a safe environment where its members can learn, teach, live, work, grow and achieve their goals,” and are given biennially to selected institutions after government inspections.

NYU Shanghai ranks in the Top 10 for the appraisal of Safe and Civilized Campuses.

In addition, NYU Shanghai was awarded the Model Campus for Safety. Only 9 out of 100 colleges and universities inspected won this award, which include Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Dong Hua University and East China University of Political Science and Law.

According to Ellen Yin, Public Safety Director of NYU Shanghai, the University has adopted advanced concepts of campus security management learned from world-class universities, including the support from the NYU Global Network.

“We have been developing and executing standard operating procedures in routines and emergencies. Meanwhile, we also explore new models of campus security management with datamation, precision and standardization by utilizing the cloud computing, big data analysis and cross-platform technologies,” Yin said.
