On August 30th, NYU Shanghai held an orientation to welcome the first cohort of students enrolled in the NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern Programs, as well as its fifth group of Master of Social Work (MSW) students.
Chancellor Yu opened the orientation with a welcome speech to NYU Shanghai’s graduate community, addressing students from all around the world. Yu told students to “open yourselves to the world, experience everything the diverse environment at NYU Shanghai has to offer, and see your life’s values and ideals realized.”

Assistant Dean of Graduate and Advanced Education Eric H. Mao gave an overview of how NYU Shanghai’s Masters and PhD programs have developed, and also spoke about the bright future of the university’s graduate programs.

During the orientation, two undergraduates from NYU Shanghai took incoming graduate students on a tour of the campus, which culminated with a group photo at the newly opened graduate lounge.

Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman spoke at a welcome lunch for students from Master of Science in Quantitative Finance (MSQF) and Master of Science in Data Analytics and Business Computing (MSDABC), which was also attended by business faculty and leadership, including Dean of Business Chen Yuxin, and Business Faculty David Yu, Ming Liao, and Christina Wang.

The orientation also included a detailed introduction of life at NYU Shanghai by the student life team, which covered community standards, student activities, campus facilities and resources, health and wellness, student visas, residential permits and more.
After the orientation, some students joined the Happy Hour and enjoyed themselves in an antique Chinese restaurant.
