Master’s Convocation 2020 incorporated graduation celebration traditions from NYU Shanghai, NYU Stern, and NYU Steinhardt. The platform party included NYU Shanghai leadership, faculty representatives, and student representatives. NYU Shanghai Chancellor Yu Lizhong and Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman opened the event with a joint welcome message. NYU Shanghai Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen delivered the Pronouncement. She said that the graduates were “absolutely unique in what you have accomplished and what you have to offer the world as you step into the next phase of your lives.” Professor and TESOL Program Director Kentei Takaya hooded Xu Siqi, MA ‘20, on behalf of all Teaching English as a Second Language Program graduates. Professor Ming Liao hooded Chen Yijie, MS ‘20, on behalf of all Data Analytics and Business Computing Program graduates. Professor Christina Wang hooded Dai Weiduo, MS ‘20, on behalf of all Quantitative Finance Program graduates. Congratulations, Class of 2020! Gift boxes for each graduate prepared by the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate and Advanced Education came with full sets of academic attire, including hoods adorned with colors signifying each graduate’s field of study. In their gift boxes, graduates also received a NYU torch lapel pin. A customized copper ruler co-branded on both sides with the NYU Shanghai logo and NYU Steinhardt or NYU Stern logo was another memorable gift box surprise.
