As the semester came to a close, NYU Shanghai’s classrooms, hallways and performance spaces were filled with students dancing in costume, playing instruments, displaying paintings and photographs, and pitching business ideas as they completed and shared their final course projects. The show included performances from Ballet, Contemporary, Chinese Minority & Folk, and Choreography & Performance classes with invited guest performances by the NYUSH Chamber Ensemble and Piano. Wang Yinqi ’22, Li Qiaowei ’22, Kathy Kaixin Song ’22, Yao Yumo ’22 and Jaeven Aylor ’21 create waves of graceful movements during “Cranes,” a Korean fan dance. Joseph Hensersky ’20 stares down the camera lens in the West African and jazz performance, Gold. For the title piece, Heavenly Bodies, Jaeven Aylor ’21, Tony Carapia Valle ’21 and Maggie Menegaz ’22 dance to Debussy’s “Claire De Lune.” First year students in English for Academic Purposes (“EAP”) shared their final projects in an End of Semester Show on the 15th floor December 10. EAP students showed off their English and critical thinking skills with presentations on diverse topics such as smart cities, understanding the news, taking humor seriously, cultivating minds, digital identities in modern public spheres, sustainability, and money. Part of the student photography exhibition, In Concept, on the 12th floor, “Cliffhanger” by Andrew Califf ’22 tells the visual story of four hikers who traversed Huashan, one of the Five Great Mountains of China. In the photos, the hikers re-enact their expressions on the trail as strong winds and a storm approached them. The color and the fruit, by Maya Wang ’20 The Auditorium was filled with music all evening on December 9th as the Vivaldi Quartet, the Chamber Orchestra joined by the Duke Kunshan Philharmonic, Jazz Ensemble, Show Choir, and Chorale performed in the End of Semester Winter Concert.
