Global Awards & Fellowships

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships program provides allocations of academic year and summer fellowships to institutions of higher education or consortia of institutions of higher education to assist meritorious undergraduate students and graduate students undergoing training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies. Eligible students apply for fellowships directly to an institution that has received an allocation of fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, this two-year Fellowship program is a path to a career in the Foreign Service by providing academic funding for an IT-related degree, internships, professional development and mentorship – culminating in an appointment in the Foreign Service as an Information Management Specialist (IMS).

The University has one goal in mind when selecting Ertegun Scholars: to choose the very best students who will realise Mica Ertegun’s Mission and one day become leaders in their chosen fields. These are highly competitive scholarships with over 1,500 applicants for around 15 awards each year, with an average 1.5% success rate for Masters candidates and 1.3% for Doctoral candidates.

Erasmus Mundus is an EU initiative sponsoring a range of innovative Masters degrees through university partnerships in Europe and globally. Fancy a degree in Security Studies or Documentary Film, with semesters at leading institutions in the UK, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Czechia etc? Partnerships of higher education institutions from Europe and from a range of countries or regions across the world make this possible. There are scholarships available for students and academics to study/research/teach in one of the partner institutions.

English Program in Korea provides participants with opportunities to teach elementary, middle or high school level English at metropolitan and provincial areas in Korea.

Eligibility: EPIK teachers must be citizens of one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, or South Africa. Under the CEPA agreement, Indian citizens are eligible for positions if they meet all other requirements and hold a valid teaching certificate in English education (this requirement cannot be fulfilled by a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate). Applicants must also have studied from at least the junior high level (7th Grade) and graduated from a university in one of the designated countries listed above.

Deadline: Rolling admissions. EPIK hires for two terms each year according to the Korean public school calendar. There are positions available for the Spring term with the main intake in late February and late intakes in March and April. For the Fall term, there are main intake positions in late August and late intake positions in September and October. Applications for the Spring term open on August 1st of the previous year, and positions for the Fall term open on February 1st of the same year.

Echoing Green is a social innovation program that provides unrestricted seed-stage funding and strategic foundational support to bring social change and develop leadership. Fellows are from all over the world with different backgrounds and are working to solve varying problems.

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides master's and doctoral funding for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States to participate in educational, cultural, residential community building, and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). The purpose of the program is to build a sense of Asia-Pacific community and develop future leadership.

Eligibility: Students must be citizen or permanent residents of specific countries. Applicants must have obtained a 4-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited U.S. college or university, or from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (4.0=A scale).

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an immersive summer opportunity for American college and university students to learn languages essential to America's engagement with the world.

Eligibility: U.S. citizens only.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) awards over 800 scholarships and fellowships for postgraduate study and professional development to Commonwealth citizens each year. Candidates are selected on the basis of merit and their potential to contribute to the needs of their home countries. There are diverse scholarships focusing on different educational level provided by Commonwealth Scholarships.
