The Humanity in Action Fellowships explore issues of social justice, human rights, politics of memory and remembrance culture, and civic engagement. They look at the ways in which communities co-exist to create a pluralistic society, and the structural challenges arising from asymmetrical power dynamics. The Fellowship entails one month of immersive study in the summer, followed by a year-long community-based Action Project. Each Fellowship program is tailored to its location. Fellows are challenged to understand their host city’s unique history of injustice against the background of their own national and local contexts. Fellows learn about the host society’s present struggles to navigate dominant and minoritized cultures and identities, while also being inspired by what collective action based on intersectional solidarity can look like. Eligibility: In Europe, Humanity in Action invites applications from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands, Poland, and Ukraine. If you are residing in one of the countries or have the citizenship of one of these countries (but live abroad), you are required to apply through one of our European offices. If you are a student or recent graduate in/from the US, you are required to apply through our New York office. As a US based applicant you can apply to the Amsterdam Fellowship, Berlin Fellowship, Copenhagen Fellowship, and the Washington DC-based Mapping Democracy Fellowship. Application: There are two different application processes for applicants from or residing in Europe and applicants from or residing in the US. You may also be eligible to apply to different fellowship programs, depending on your location. Refer to the website for more details. Deadline: Generally in Fall; sign up on the website to be notified when applications for the 2024 Fellowship are open. |
