Quick Takes

Congratulations to Clinical Assistant Professor of Arts Maya Kramer on winning a spot in the Arctic Circle expeditionary residency program. She will participate in a sailing expedition to the High Arctic from June 8 to June 25, 2023 with 29 other artists and scientists. On the journey, she will continue to develop a body of abstract paintings based on tide and wind maps and will also be making sound recordings to make a version of a Chladni plate. “I had wanted to do this residency for years, so was thrilled when I got the acceptance letter. It was especially sweet since this year they had the most applications in their 14-year history," Kramer said. "I’m looking forward to sharing this once in a lifetime experience with the NYU Shanghai community."

Kudos to Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Yifei Li on being awarded a China-US Scholars Program (CUSP) fellowship for completing his next book, tentatively titled Environmentalism Of, By, and For the Chinese State.

Congratulations to Data Science major Cinny Lin '22 on receiving a summer 2021 Data Science for Social Good Fellowship, facilitated by the University of Warwick and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich in partnership with the Alan Turing Institute. Lin was one of just 15 students selected from universities around the world to participate in the 12-week summer program. Lin and her teammates partnered with the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs to create a web application that helps government officials understand and predict economic developments in Germany at the regional level.
