Yu Zhou and Danmeng Zheng studied away this summer within the NYU Global Network. We are excited to have them share their summer stories with us.
Yu Zhou spent her summer in London taking two classes: British Art and Architecture, and British Politics. In the British Art and Architecture class, she visited various art galleries and iconic buildings in London. For the first time in her life, she got to know how classical, baroque, and gothic buildings look like. The British Politics class was fantastic according to Yu. Yu had an opportunity to learn the basic facts, discuss related political topics, and took a field trip to the House of Parliament. During her time in UK, Yu also took trips to the southeast coast of England, Oxford and to find King Arthur.
Yu writes,
I loved the classes there, especially the art & architecture one. Also I loved the 9:30pm sunset and beautiful weather. This experience has opened a new world for me. London has been the second longest place I have ever stayed during my life! Everything there is very different from Shanghai, my hometown.
Danmeng Zheng took two 4-credit courses in Paris this summer: Elementary French and History of Photography as a fine art. He learnt basic French and visited many museums and art places such as Orsay Museum, Place de la Concordo, catabombes.
NYU Paris organized a number of cultural activities for students: walking tours, ballets, operas, day trips, etc. Danmeng went to a cruise on Seine and took a walking tour to Montmartre. He watched Le Malade Imaginaire by Molière at la Comédie Française and the ballet Notre-Dame de Paris de Roland Petit at Opéra Bastille. He also traveled to Belgium and Italy.
Being the only student from NYU Shanghai who attended the summer program in Paris, Danmeng came to Paris alone without knowing anyone but he really enjoyed the summer experience in Paris. Below is what Danmeng said about the experience:
“The six-week experience in Paris was more like an adventure and challenge for me. It was also a golden opportunity to really learn about French culture. You can never know about the daily life, the custom, and the emotions of French people during three-day traveling. Only when you live in the city as a habitant can you feel the great charm of Paris.”
Thank you Yu and Danmeng for sharing the summer stories with us. We will have more summer stories coming up.
