Welcome to Sila Shanghai!
Sila Connection was established in March 2012 at New York University Abu Dhabi. ‘Sila’ represents ‘connection’ in Arabic. Sila aims to encourage the local community to address global and local issues by utilizing local resources in their solutions. We believethat global issues are best solved through a local approach. Today’s most prominent global challengescan be traced back to small local problems. Therefore, we believe in “Solving global issues by going local”. We aspire to develop Sila Connection into a brand in which thousands of independent conferences can unite in. We foresee this to first take place within New York University’s Global Network University (GNU) sites in the 13 different locations across the world, with Sila spreading to the Shanghai and the New York campus this semester!
Sila Connection aspires to establish and encourage collaboration between local university students and professionals in developing sustainable solution to current issues in local communities. This year, we have brought Sila Connection to the Shanghai campus, in which we will be discussing the issue of air pollution.
This 3 day conference will take place from December 5-7 and will have 60 students (both international and Chinese) in groups of 5 to brainstorm, write, and present an action plan to a panel. The winning group will take home a monetary prize to help fund their project.
