NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern to Jointly Offer One-Year Master of Science Programs

Rouxpz today marks the beginning of my final month in shanghai. i have a lot of complicated feelings about this city and china in general but i would be lying if i didn’t say that the past few years have shaped the trajectory of my life to a wild degree. now begins the rush to capture and remember all the #thingsillmissaboutshanghai before i head back home for real.

Ymaarrawi He came out of nowhere and decided that he wants to sit with me. He was a Shanghai native, and I couldn’t understand most of what he said. 我的中文很糟糕 even when if I listen off a speaker, never mind hearing it from him. After trying to chat with my broken Chinese on China, the Middle East, and university life, the food came, and I reached out to get a fork. When I did that, he raised his hand and started shouting. I froze, confused, only to see him come closer and directly point at my sleeve; which, at this point, was halfway deep in the bowl of curry.

Before leaving back to his family’s table, he asked a passerby to translate something. The translator said that “He wants to be your friend, and is wondering if you accept his request.” And I gladly did. China, you’re so random. I love you.
