Oct 21 2016

Over 150 students and faculty gathered in the auditorium on October 19 to watch a live webcast of the 10th CHINA Town Hall, featuring Dr. Henry Kissinger, American diplomat and political scientist who once taught at Harvard University.

Dr. Kissinger spoke about his experiences as national security advisor (1969-1975) and secretary of state (1973-1977). He fielded questions about the state of U.S.-China relations, including recent events affecting the bilateral relationship, and his own encounters with Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai leading up to US president Richard Nixon’s official visit to China in 1972.

During the hour-long interview, Steve Orlins, president of the National Committee since 2005, interviewed Dr. Kissinger often relying on audience questions from across  the 88 sites in the United States and China participating in the webcast.

Dr. Pierre Landry, Professor of Political Science and director of NYU-Shanghai’s Global China Studies introduced the event. Following the webcast, he joined in a interesting and lively Q+A session with Professor Feng Wang, a leading expert on Chinese Demography and Population Policy from University of California Irvine and Fudan University, who offered his own insights and remarks about the state of US-China relations.
