With just two months left until NYU Shanghai makes its long-awaited move from Century Avenue to its new campus in Qiantan, it’s “all hands on deck” at the construction site.
At present, about thirty construction companies are working together to complete the building by November 30, with the project closeout slated for mid-December. The campus move is scheduled to commence on December 24 and finish by January 8, just in time for the community to settle into its new home for the 2023 spring semester.
Construction units have been working tirelessly through online and onsite meetings to coordinate engineering and construction of the new campus.

In keeping with sustainable practices, the new campus will prioritize the use of NYU Shanghai’s existing furniture. But while the furnishings maybe familiar, the campus has many new features to discover, including two athletic centers, a black box theater, a recital hall, two auditoriums that will house 250 and 600 people, a two-story loft dance studio, an art gallery, a reading hall, a courtyard lawn, and the Magnolia House–a winter garden lounge area perfect for relaxing, exchanging ideas, and studying in a comfortable and open environment bathed in light.

Students will be able to travel with ease between the new campus location and Yaohua Residence Hall, just 2.5 kilometers away. The residence hall’s three towers have over 700 rooms and combine singles, doubles, triples and triple suites to accommodate more than 1,600 students. A notable upgrade is that each of the new apartments will have their own kitchen, showers, toilets, refrigerator, and a washing machine with drying capabilities.
In the meantime, the entire NYU Shanghai community is already preparing for the transition and has until December 23 to clean out all lockers and pack up belongings to be transferred to our new home.
