November 7-8, 2015 - NYU Shanghai students hosted the 2nd HackShanghai 2015 (Hack上海), attracting 250 students from top schools, including Harvard, MIT and Tsinghua to the intense 24 hour marathon coding competition. ICBC and Goldman Sachs, along with 21 other companies and startups, sponsored the weekend event.
“Rolling Ball”, a multiplayer game app, created by a team from Fudan University, took home first place. Using a smartphone’s accelerometer, gyroscope, and other sensors, the Fudan students produced a game that simulates the movement of a small ball that rolls from the screen of one phone to the next. To win, the two players must work together to move the ball while dodging strange creatures to find the treasure chest.
Second place went to “Cannon” a shooting game that uses 3D technology as well as virtual reality technology to create a more interactive and realistic experience. Finally, four students from different universities who serendipitously met at Hack(上海) took home third place with “Know Video”, a web browser add-on that will play video as the background of the page with the search results.
Hack(上海) aims to cross geographical and cultural boundaries and bring together a multitude of different innovators, each with their own view of the world we live in. With so many vastly different perspectives, The organizers of the annual event want to see how programming can display the very basics of what brings humans together and leave a positive mark on our rapidly advancing world.
