An Afternoon with the Guzheng

Mar 4 2016

The 2nd floor cafe never sounded better than on the afternoon of March 1 when Student Life’s FYI (Find Yourself In & For Your Information) program introduced three student musicians who have mastered playing the guzheng (古筝)-- a 21-stringed traditional Chinese instrument with over 2,500 years of history.

Xiang Li, captivated the audience as she filled the space with the plucked melodies of “Spring Comes to Lhasa.” Yiyi Zhang followed with a passionate performance of “Early Spring of the Jokul” and Ziwei Liu was the afternoon’s perfect end note with the Japanese piece “Senbonzakura.”  The audience was invited to play as well while Yue Sun’18 handed out prizes to all those who correctly answered questions about the guzheng.
