Anqi Qian is the Vice Provost for Research and the Director of Joint Research Institutes at NYU Shanghai. Anqi’s broad charge is to oversee the research administrative infrastructure at NYU Shanghai, including research partnerships development, sponsored programs, research compliance, and institutional initiatives. Anqi works with institutional stakeholders such as NYU partners in New York and globally, government sponsors and regional stakeholders.
Prior to that, Anqi was the Project Phase Research Director at Sidra Medical and Research Center, an academic medical center with an endowment of eight billion U.S. dollars. Her role focused on creating the Sidra research enterprise, which aspires to deliver a world-class, integrated portfolio spanning basic, translation and clinical research pertaining to obstetrics/ feto-maternal and children’s health. Anqi oversaw the planning of Sidra research infrastructure with a team of subject matter experts and stakeholders.
Anqi was also previously the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, where she was responsible for establishing strategic partnerships between Carnegie Mellon and governmental agencies and industries in Qatar to advance research, corporate outreach, and executive education. Originally from Shanghai, China, Anqi was educated and professionally trained in the United States. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA, where she investigated the biophysical properties of NMDA receptors, a type of trans-membrane proteins strongly implicated in many developmental and pathological brain processes.
