January Term 2015 Course Information Available Now

Are you interested in taking a course over the winter break to earn academic credit? Do you want to have a distinctive and rigorous learning experience? Would you like to reach beyond the classroom to incorporate experiential learning and connect to the place where you study? If so, taking a single course during the January term might be your best option! All NYU Shanghai students may take one course during the three-week January term in 2015. J term 2015 courses run from January 5 to 23, 2015.

There are three different options of J term courses available now for NYU Shanghai students:

  1. Shanghai courses in Shanghai

  2. Abu Dhabi courses in Shanghai and around the global network

  3. New York courses.

1. Shanghai Courses

The following three NYU Shanghai courses will be offered in Shanghai this J Term 2015:

(1). Creativity & Innovation BUSH-SHU 10 J (will count as a non-Finance elective or general elective)

(2). Neighborhood, Map, Phone INTM-SHU 10J (will count as Science, Technology and Society OR Skills Development course for IMA major, or general elective)

(3). What can Neuroscience Tell us about Free Will? NEUR-SHU 10J (will count as Science, Technology and Society or general elective)

You can look up the course descriptions in Albert. The cost of the J term courses in Shanghai will be announced within the next few days. Housing is included as part of your fall and spring tuition and fees so there will be no additional housing cost for courses taken in Shanghai.

Course registration will be available on Monday, October 20, 2014. Second year students will have an earlier registration time than first-year students.

2. Abu Dhabi Courses

NYU Abu Dhabi offers courses in sites throughout the global network during J term. The available courses are posted on this website. Students must apply and be accepted into an Abu Dhabi course. The application can be found here. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2014. The tuition and fee information for Abu Dhabi J term courses can be found here. There is no financial aid available. If you're accepted, Abu Dhabi will inform you about the registration process.

3. New York Courses

Students may review the J term course offerings in New York by going to Albert. Course registration opens on October 20, 2014 (Eastern Standard Time). There is NO application process for NYU Shanghai students to apply for J term courses offered in New York. The cost of the courses may be found on this website. The cost of housing may be found here. There is no financial aid available for J term courses offered in New York.

If you are planning on taking a J term course outside of Shanghai, please check in with the Shanghai Student Mobility as soon as possible about the visa requirements before applying or enrolling.
