Professor Jessie Keyt

Shanghai is one of the world's most climate-vulnerable major cities (rising sea levels, land subsidence, and an increased frequency of heat waves and typhoons). Rather than relocating its most vulnerable citizens, the city has adopted mitigation programs on a massive scale and speed (Shanghai 2035 Plan).

Professor Yong Liu

Professor Yong Liu's general research area is networking. His current research projects include resilient edge networks, immersive video streaming for AR/VR applications, and decentralized federated learning (DFL) and applications.

Professor Ethan Richard Harkness

Professor Ethan Richard Harkness’s current research project is a study and translation of the astronomical and calendrical texts among the Tsinghua manuscripts, a large cache of Warring States era (ca. 300 BCE) bamboo manuscripts in the collection of Tsinghua University, Beijing. These texts include previously unseen astro-calendrical systems with many alternative names for the visible asterisms in the night sky and some knotty paleographic problems related to the use of the Chu script in which they have been recorded.

Professor Andrea Glenn

Professor Andrea Glenn’s research uses large epidemiologic cohorts and clinical studies to understand how plant-based proteins—especially soy and other legumes—influence cardiometabolic health and healthy aging. Professor Glenn examines dietary patterns, plant protein intake, and long-term risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Mingzhen Lu

Synopsis of Research in Shanghai (May 26 - July 25):

During his summer GRI fellowship, Professor Mingzhen Lu will collaborate with Prof. Kangning Huang to investigate the spatial mismatch between China’s rapidly growing urban populations and their built environments—a phenomenon marked by both “ghost towns” and overcrowded urban villages. The project involves three core objectives:
