Professor Andrea Glenn’s research uses large epidemiologic cohorts and clinical studies to understand how plant-based proteins—especially soy and other legumes—influence cardiometabolic health and healthy aging. Professor Glenn examines dietary patterns, plant protein intake, and long-term risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. NYU Shanghai is an ideal site because Shanghai residents are among the highest consumers of soy globally, and the Shanghai Women’s and Men’s Health Studies provide exceptional cohorts for future collaborative work on plant protein and chronic disease. Living in Shanghai will allow Professor Glenn to better understand local dietary practices and soy intake patterns, and to build collaborations with investigators in the Department of Epidemiology at Fudan University for joint analyses and manuscripts.
