March 5 & 6, 2016 - Sila Connection Shanghai -- a student-led initiative dedicated to solving global issues using local resources -- held its second yearly conference at NYU Shanghai. This year’s topic, “Food Issue,” attracted delegates from seven universities across Shanghai and two NYU campuses. Students Feast on Poetry

It was a night of anything but iambic pentameter as students flocked to the NYU Shanghai gallery space for pizza and poetry at the Second Annual NYU Shanghai Poetry Competition. Glocalizing Medicine

March 8, 2016 - As a major trading port since the 17th century, Canton was uniquely suited for intercultural exchanges--dealing not only in tea, silver and raw silk, but medical knowledge as well. Joel Bernstein: Science in Court

At a recent Faculty Lunch Seminar Series, Professor Joel Bernstein talked about his experience as an Expert Witness over the past two decades. The following exchange grew out of that presentation.
Did you ever think that becoming an expert witness was part of your career path?
When I finished my PhD at age 26, I wanted to pursue a career in academia doing basic science. I knew nothing about expert witnessing; patents and patent law seemed totally remote and boring. One day in the autumn of 1991, I received a phone call.  The lawyers on the other end of the line had a lot of questions. That is how it all started, and I became an expert witness for Glaxo in a patent infringement case involving Zantac, at the time the world’s largest selling drug at $3.5 billion/year (~$10 million/day).
