NYU Shanghai Instagram “Takeover” Guidelines

The following guidelines are for staff and students who have been invited to “takeover” or post content on behalf of the NYU Shanghai Instagram account:  @nyushanghai.

Before starting your takeover, you must sign the Social Media “Takeover” Terms of Agreement.

How to Takeover:
 

  • Your first post: Please introduce yourself, your NYU Shanghai affiliation (if you’re a student, include your major!), and what our followers can expect to see during your takeover.

  • Provide context:  While posting images /video, don’t forget to state where you are and what you are doing.

  • Be polite: no offensive language or criticism of another person or company.

  • Have fun, be yourself: We want to see the day/week/event from your perspective.

  • Hashtags: Please use #nyushanghai whenever possible and any other related hashtags depending on event, (e.g #myfirstweek #orientationweek)

  • Instagram Stories: get creative--experiment with video, photo and boomerang, filters and stickers. Please keep posts under 15 clips / day!

  • Live on Instagram: Please do not exceed 30 min per livestream.

  • Ending your takeover: Wrap up your day with one final farewell clip.
     

Photos of Others:

  • Group photos: Notify anyone pictured that the photos you take might be used on NYU Shanghai social media and check that they are OK with this.

  • During company visits: check with the representatives that you are allowed to post photos on social media. Some companies do not allow this or may have restricted areas.

Comments and Direct Messages:

  • Respond to comments and questions responsibly and when appropriate but do not feel pressured to do so.

  • Notify us if you receive any comments or direct messages that you feel are inappropriate.
