And new duties ... As NYU Shanghai's newly minted Chief Information Officer, Prof. Clay Shirky will leading strategies for using ICT to support of students, faculty, and administrative staff. The Staff-Faculty Intercultural Conversation Circle held its first in a series of meetings on November 13, bringing together seven staff members from HR, IT, Student Life, Advising, and the Library together with seven faculty members, GAFs, and GPFs from across the university for a discussion inspired by linguist Veronica Zhengdao Ye's narrative essay, La Doble vie de Veronica: Reflections on my Life as a Chinese Migrant in Australia. Also last week, NYU Shanghai's Green Shanghai hosted a BioPlastic workshop with ECNU students to learn how to create plastic from natural and ecological materials. The Shanghai Sunshine House - a local community organization that provides daily care centers for those with mental disabilities - visited NYU Shanghai and participated in a Christmas card-making party. 150 cards were made and sold for benefit the trainees of the Sunshine House.
