生物科学

 

生物科学涉及各种不同形式的生命活动。过去几十年里,分子技术、细胞技术、基因组技术和生物信息技术的发展,使生命科学发生了彻底改变。人们正在利用这些技术,研究生物体内的基本过程,运用这些信息改善人类健康,加强对环境的合理管理,推进法医科学,在扩大可再生能源生产的同时隔离污染物,探讨与解决影响生物科学发现及其应用的伦理道德和法律问题。生物科学专业课程设置的宗旨,是培养独于行、敏于思,对探索自然界怀有热忱与的科学家。

在化学、物理、生物科学基础科学课程的基础上,生物科学专业的学生,将学习利用当代工具与方法,解决当下生命科学领域的问题。在设置本专业的过程中,首先强调要涵盖“生物科学概念的重要支柱”——分子和细胞生物学、遗传学、进化,并确保学生接受先进的定量和计算分析方法训练。专业结构便于学生在完成核心课程后,修读更高级别的多门课程。这些中高级课程,为有志于从事研究、健康相关领域、生物技术和教育等职业的学生,提供广泛而深入的现代生物科学背景。生物科学专业可以让学生进行独立研究,并完成本科毕业论文。

上海纽约大学生物科学专业课程,与纽约大学生物系及基因组学和系统生物学中心、纽约大学阿布扎比分校生物科学项目,以及纽约大学全球教育体系的各大实验室建立了密切的联系。

Students are strongly encouraged (but not required) to take Organic Chemistry II as a general elective. Additionally, pre-health students may wish to take Introduction to Psychology or another relevant social sciences course, as required or recommended by some medical schools. Students interested in pursuing careers in the health sciences should meet with advising staff early on to ensure adequate course planning.
