数学与应用数学（数学）

数学是科学的基石，它既是一门纯科学，又是解决其他学科问题以及基于现象建模的工具，具有强大的双重作用。因为数学，我们得以在计算中建立有效算法，研究金融市场的罕见事件，模拟物理世界，发展气候科学预测，绘制和研究人类基因组，以及分析人类大脑结构。数学从自然界存在与产生的各种问题，以及工业科技领域的应用中汲取生命力，以严谨和抽象为基石。

数学与应用数学专业，旨在培养数学及其应用领域的优秀人才，为未来职业发展和继续深造打下坚实基础。该专业必修课程提供分析、代数、微分方程和概率论方面的必要训练。选修课程则涵盖许多理论数学和应用数学的专题，包括统计学、数值分析、偏微分方程、拓扑学、微分几何、科学计算、数理金融、抽象代数、数论和泛函分析等。

上海纽约大学提供两种数学与应用数学专业学位：(a) 数学与应用数学（数学）和 (b) 数学与应用数学（荣誉数学）。有志于攻读数学或相关学科研究生学位的学生，应考虑修读数学与应用数学（荣誉数学）。
