In the Fall 2023 semester, graduate students have participated in various extracurricular activities besides study, internship, practicum, or a full-time job.

At the beginning of the semester, students went on a City Walk at the Bund. Strolling along the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, they learnt about the stories behind the historical buildings and visited the Shanghai Postal Museum.

At the end of September, students celebrated the Mid-autumn Festival by guessing riddles, playing pitch-pot, making lanterns, and sharing their hometowns and traditional food there.

It’s Halloween in October, time for dressing up in costumes, having candies, and carving pumpkins!

To appreciate the students, staff, and faculty who constitute our amazing graduate community, the Office of Graduate and Advanced Education designed four versions of NYU Shanghai-themed postcards for the community. Students also made DIY postcards for themselves and those who are important to them. Outdated newspapers, magazines, and event posters as well as other DIY elements like leaves and Qilin-emoji stamps were provided.

In December, as students prepared for finals, the Office of Graduate and Advanced Education put out tables stacked with snacks and coffee to support students and encouraged them to take care of themselves both physically and mentally.

Graduate students also participated in guided meditation hosted by the Student Health Center, LEAD Program initiated by the Center for Student Belonging, field trips organized by the Community-Engaged Learning Office, intercollegiate sports etc. Recently, during the International Cultural Lifestyle Week hosted by New Bund 31, several graduate students performed in the Community Talent Show as a band and actively engaged with our surrounding community.

The Office of Graduate and Advanced Education attaches great importance to graduate student experience at NYU Shanghai. We encourage students to learn and grow not only inside but also outside the classroom by connecting with diverse populations, utilizing abundant school resources, and exploring the world. Let’s build a graduate community together that is more dynamic, supportive, and interconnected!
