Shining in Shanghai: NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern MS Programs Fall 2023 Moments

MS students arrived in Shanghai in September to start the fall semester at NYU Shanghai following the summer term in New York at NYU Stern. Throughout the semester they acquired more analytical, technical and business skills through rigorous coursework and the beginning of their capstone projects. They also leveraged campus resources and opportunities to connect with industry experts, develop career competencies, network with alumni, and participated in a wide range of events to engage with their peers and explore interests outside of the classroom.

Coursework

All students enrolled in nine credits in the fall semester, receiving instruction from the renowned NYU Stern and NYU Shanghai faculty who not only shared their research and industry experience, but also introduced relevant and timely business cases from Asia and around the world. Guided by the capstone directors, students started working on their capstone projects in small groups, applying theoretical knowledge to solve real world business cases presented by their corporate clients.

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is a key feature of the joint Master’s programs. This fall, students had the opportunity to interact with professionals, gain industry insights, and learn about local business culture as well as daily operations of different organizations through speaker series and company visits. Fall Graduates

This year, we have our first cohort of fall graduates who opted for the 20-month graduation timeline track. In addition to walking in the May 2023 graduation ceremony, they had a celebratory dinner gathering in December with program staff at a local restaurant to mark the occasion of the completion of their degree. They will receive their diplomas in January as they embark on their next chapters. Congratulations to our new graduates!

Alumni Engagement

In October, the MS programs launched the 2023-2024 Alumni Council, consisting of 15 alumni from all four programs who seek to play an active role in promoting active engagement within the alumni community through regular event planning and feedback sharing. On November 9th, alumni and current students joined together at the new NYU Shanghai campus located in the Qiantan (New Bund) neighborhood for an alumni panel and networking mixer.

Social Events

Outside of the classroom, students had the opportunity to further connect with each other and explore the New Bund campus and its surrounding area. They attended a variety of activities on campus, including the mid-Autumn festival celebration, Halloween pumpkin carving event, and Thanksgiving postcard party. They also joined peer gatherings such as lunch gatherings and a barbeque dinner organized by the cohort leaders.

Looking Ahead

After a two-week winter break, students will take a three-week intensive course during January term (J-Term) before starting the Spring semester.
