In early April, NYU Shanghai's Deans' Service Scholars (DSS) returned successfully from their trips to Henan, Hunan, Yunnan and Cambodia, filled with a clearer sense of what it means to serve communities through an academic lens while experiencing cultures.
A select group of 500 high school students from 30 provinces across China took part in a weekend of sample lectures, writing exercises, group activities and personal interviews at NYU Shanghai this month.

During this year’s spring break, my daughter brought 3 of her NYU Shanghai classmates to visit our hometown Guilin, in Guangxi Province. I acted as a "part-time tour guide" for what became an unforgettable and exclusive in-depth tour of local culture and landscape. I was impressed by their perseverance when we were hiking and climbing.

Hu Shuang(Sophie) ‘17 had never left her family or her hometown in Ningbo, Zhejiang province before beginning her journey at NYU Shanghai. Four years later, the business and finance major has studied away in Washington DC and Tel Aviv, interned at the Hudson Institute in the US, and recently accepted a position with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) management consulting in Shanghai.
