Career Counseling & Graduate School Advising

What I have found most helpful were the walk-in hours because I got to talk individually with one of the career advisors.” Roxanne, Class of 2017

Career Counseling

Career counselors at the NYU Shanghai Career Development Center (CDC) provide professional, individualized career guidance and support throughout the career exploration process. An appointment with a career counselor can help you:

Identify and explore career interests

Set professional goals and develop an individual timeline

Effectively search for internships and jobs in your field

Edit your resume and cover letter

Participate in a mock interview

Perform assessments and inventories to identify strengths, skills and interests

Graduate School Advising

Students may also meet with a career counselor if they are interested in exploring pre-professional and graduate schools. We can identify basic degree options and guide you to appropriate resources. We highly encourage students to contact Academic Advising and faculty to academically prepare for a graduate degree. Read through Prehealth Advising and Prelaw Advising if you are interested in those career tracks.

Accreditation and English Proficiency

Graduate schools should not require English proficiency exam scores from NYU Shanghai students because NYU Shanghai is accredited in the United States and its students receive a degree from NYU. If a graduate school asks for TOEFL, IELTS or another English language proficiency test, the below accreditation statement may be provided. However, some schools may still require English proficiency scores even after reviewing NYU Shanghai's accreditation statement. In such cases, please visit the appropriate website for information about test centers and test dates:

TOEFL: www.ets.org/toefl
IELTS: www.ielts.org/

Check with graduate schools well in advance of applying to verify their English language proficiency requirements. If you have any issues, please make an appointment with a career counselor through NYU Shanghai CareerNet.

Accreditation Statement
NYU Shanghai is fully accredited in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and in China by China's Ministry of Education. The official language of instruction at NYU Shanghai is English and all courses are taught in English.
