NYUCard Services

About NYUCard 

The NYUCard is a must for all NYU Shanghai Faculty, Staff and Students. The NYUCard should be carried at all times while on campus.
The card, which identifies you as Faculty, Staff or Student, entitles you to various privileges and potential uses on campus.
Your NYUCard allows you to access selected NYU Shanghai buildings, campus transportation and pay for meals in the cafeteria and cafe.
Do not lend this card to anyone at any time for any reason. You can be subject to disciplinary proceedings if you are involved in fraudulent use of a NYUCard.

If you should terminate your stay at NYU, please return your card to the NYU Shanghai Card Center. The NYUCard Center is located inside the Command Center in room 118 on the ground floor of the Academic Building.

A New Card

The NYU Shanghai Card Center is located in room 118 of the Academic Building and is open 24-hours/day, 7 days/week. The Card Center staff can assist you by producing new ID cards, generating replacement ID cards, and addressing any access-related issues that you might experience. To request an NYUCard, please see below.After the Card Center closes at 5:00pm, the Command Center’s security staff will continue to assist you by producing new ID cards and generating replacement ID cards, making it possible to obtain a new or replacement NYUCard 24-hours/day, 7 days/week.

To request a replacement card:
If card is lost or stolen:

  1. Go to Room B10 in the basement to alert cafeteria staff that card is missing. They will hold the money on your account. 
  2. Go to the NYU Shanghai Card Center located in room 118 and use the iPad provided there to fill out a request form. You will need to provide your name and NetID.

You may expect to receive a confirmation email from Public Safety within two business days. Please make sure the information you provide is accurate and correct. 

  1. There is a 100 RMB fee to replace your NYU Shanghai ID card. Currently, we can only accept payment in cash. Please bring the fee to the Bursar’s office in Room 1062, where you will be given an official receipt. If your card is stolen and you obtain a police report (or incident information slip) from the police department, the fee can be waived.
  2. Bring the official receipt to the Command Center in room 118 and give it to the specialist there. You will be issued a new card within 1-2 business days. 

Please note: You must present an identification document (e.g. state photo ID or passport) and the receipt of payment to receive your new NYU Shanghai card. 

If card is damaged or expired:
You must present the damaged or expired card in order to exchange for a new one. There is no fee to exchange a damaged or expired card.

Existing card when coming from another campus:

For faculty:
If you are coming to teach at NYU Shanghai and would like your access card to work here on campus, please speak to your local command center. You do NOT need a new card, your current ID will work.
If your spouse or immediate family are coming to Shanghai with you and will need access to the campus building or use of NYU Shanghai services, a special ID card can be arranged for them. This card will allow them access to the shuttle services and the campus building.
For students:
If you are coming to study away at NYU Shanghai, please talk to your local command center about setting up your ID to operate here in Shanghai. This will allow you to get into and out of the campus building and dorms, as well as use the shuttle services provided and store value for purchasing meals in the canteen. 
The month and year expiration date printed below your photo on your NYUCard represents the date on which your NYUCard will automatically expire. If the date on your NYUCard has expired or is about to expire, you must have the Registrar's Office update your information, in order to have a new card issued to you.  Electronic access privileges are assigned on a semester basis and are based on several factors; therefore, your card may not work even if the card date is valid. Common reasons for your electronic access privileges to be deactivated are disenrolling from classes, not being enrolled in the current semester, or by no longer being a matriculated NYU student. Please check with the Card Center for a status update.
For Employees and Affiliates:
All employees and affiliates can obtain a new or replacement NYUCard by visiting the Card Center in room 118 of the Academic Building. Employees or affiliates at a study away site should consult with their Global Academic Center coordinator to obtain a replacement card. Please talk to your local command center about setting up your ID to operate here in Shanghai. This will allow you to get into and out of the campus building and dorms, as well as use the shuttle services provided and store value for purchasing meals in the canteen. 
The month and year expiration date printed below your photo on your NYUCard represents the date on which your NYUCard will automatically expire. If the date on your NYUCard has expired or is about to expire, you must have Human Resources update your information, in order to be issued a replacement NYUCard. Please check with the Card Center for a status update.

If you separate from NYU for any reason, you must return your card, which is the property of the University, to the Card Center prior to your departure in order to avoid the assignment of any future fees.
