Public Safety

NYU Shanghai Department of Public Safety is committed to creating a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to pursue their educational and professional goals while at NYU Shanghai.


In collaboration with NYU's Department of Public Safety, local police and authorities, the NYU Shanghai Department of Public Safety serves the University by preventing crime, maintaining public order on campus, and handling emergency response and environmental health and safety. The public safety team also maintains strong relationships with ECNU Public Security, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, and local embassies and consulates.

The Command Center is located in Room 118 of the Academic Building (Pudong Campus). It is open 24/7 with officers available to provide assistance for emergency and non-emergency situations in both English and Chinese

Safe NYU app

Safe NYU is a new application for Android and IOS provided by NYU to help improve community safety. The app is monitored by NYU Shanghai Security Command Center 24 hours per day. The application offers eight safety features:


Emergency Contacts – quick access to emergency lines.


Mobile Bluelight – simultaneously send your location to and call NYU Shanghai Security Command Center.


Friend Walk – share your location with a friend who will monitor you as you walk   to your destination.


Report An Incident – easily report an incident by cellphone.


Support Resources – link to community services info about Wellness Exchange & Bias Response Line, etc.


Shanghai Map – Metro of Shanghai. 


Emergency Procedures – describes emergency situations and how to survive them.


Safety Toolbox – set of tools to enhance safety, i.e. Flashlight, Share Map With Your Location, etc.
