Roopa Vasudevan was an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she was an adjunct professor and postgraduate research fellow at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and adjunct faculty at Fordham College at Lincoln Center. She holds an MPS from ITP and a BA from Columbia University.
Vasudevan’s research interests include natural language processing, data collection and analysis, and the artistic representation of social media, as applied to political and cultural dynamics in the United States, both online and off. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured by Reuters, Hyperallergic, PBS NewsHour, Slate, Complex, The FADER, and Public Radio International, among others.
Vasudevan is a member of the Flux Factory artist community, based in Queens, NY, and has recently been a participant in the SPACES World Artists Program (Cleveland, OH) and the China Residencies #slowtrain digital residency (aboard the Trans-Mongolian Railway).
