Pei Gao is an Assistant Professor of Practice of Economics at NYU Shanghai. She holds a PhD from London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she was a Postdoctoral Research fellow in the Department of Economic History at the LSE on an ESRC project -- The Long View in British children's growth.

Professor Gao’s research interests include Economic History, Economics of Education, and Demographic Economics. She is a member of Economic History Society (UK), Economic History Association (USA) and Cliometric Society.  Her current book projects include "Education and Human Capital", a chapter for "The Cambridge Economic History of China" by the Cambridge University Press.
