Mohamad’s research area is pre-modern Middle Eastern history. His main focus is the history of Islamic political thought (c. 1000-1400) and the ideal of "the rule of law: as expressed in Islamic advice literature but also in the wider Eastern-Mediterranean political tradition. Mohamad’s other research interests include the study of Crusader kings such as Louis IX and Frederic II based on medieval Islamic sources and professional mobility in pre-modern Islamic societies.
