Maria Montoya is the Dean of Arts and Science at NYU Shanghai. As Dean, she is responsible for academic affairs, curriculum coordination, and intellectual development of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

Dean Montoya is also an Associate Professor of History at NYU, where she has served for several years as the Director of Undergraduate Studies coordinating history courses across the University's expansive global network and mentoring honors students in the Department of History. She holds a PhD, MA, and BA from Yale University.

Dean Montoya’s research interests are in the history of the American West, as well as in environmental, labor, and Latina/o history. Montoya is the lead author of the forthcoming US history textbook Global Americans. She is also the author of numerous articles, as well as Translating Property: The Maxwell Land Grant and the Problem of Land in the American West.
